Kelsee & Baby Diem’s Birth Story

How did your labor start?
My labor started at exactly 4:20am, after a night a restful sleep. I woke up to a single strong contractions and immediately knew “today was the day”. Contractions started consistently 10 minutes apart, and I let my doula know around 4:50 that I thought today would be the day – and to be on standby.

How did your labor go? How did you feel during labor?
My labor was beautiful, empowering, and 30 hours shorter than my first! I contracted every 10 minutes for the first hour, and then they quickly increase to 3 minutes apart within 4 hours from the first contraction. My husband called our doula, and when she timed a few contractions she calmly asked my husband to call the midwife and let her know we should be on our way. I labored in the car and literally felt our baby rotate and drop deep into my pelvis. Within 30min of arriving at the Coit House I was in the tub and the fetal.ejection reflex was kicking in. I urgently told my doula “I think I’m pushing!”, I instinctively put my hand down and felt the baby’s head. “I feel the head!” I yelled, and my doula jumped to get the midwife. 2 pushes later, my daughter was born in the water and I brought her to my chest. I was absolutely shocked. I thought it would be hours until I had her, and I didn’t expect a blissful water birth.
Who was with you and how did they offer support?
My husband and doula. They were encouraging and making sure I was fed and drinking water.

How did your experience of giving birth compare to your expectations?
Birth was much more calm and quicker than I imagined. I felt supported, cared for, and respected. I never had the anxiety of needing to advocate for anything.

Beautiful and blissful. It was a high like no other to hold the baby in my arms.
